Supporting All Service Classes in ATM: A Novel Traffic Control Framework
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a general traac control framework for Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks with its performance evaluation. The proposed traac control scheme can incorporate all the recently considered ATM service classes including Constant Bit Rate (CBR), real time Variable Bit Rate (rtVBR), non-real time Variable Bit Rate (nrVBR), Available Bit Rate (ABR) and Unspeciied Bit Rate (UBR) services. The control is based on a complete buuer partitioning architecture and on the associated buuer scheduling rule with adaptive weighting functions. We present the formulation of the traac control as an optimization problem in a 3-dimensional Quality of Service (QoS) state space. A solution approach based on dynamic programming is also suggested. A comprehensive performance evaluation of the method has been performed based on simulations and results are presented with several examples. The QoS dependence on CBR load, VBR load, VBR burstiness, UBR load are investigated and results are demonstrated with explanations.

Simulation of quality of service mechanisms in the UMTS terrestrial radio access network
Supporting multiple traffic classes with different QoS (Quality of Service) constraints in third generation mobile systems is not a straightforward problem. This issue becomes critical at the access network interfaces, where transmission resources are usually expensive. One of the most important interfaces is the one that connects each base station with its controller, because there can be many...
متن کاملNon-cooperative Traffic Control in Atm Networks
Tranditionally traffic control in communication networks is seeking the optimization of a single network-wide performance objective. Thus, it is assumed that all users and traffic classes in the network have the same objective and cooperate to optimize it. However, in the modern Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks, there are multiple users and traffic classes, each with completely differe...

An ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a promising technology for realizing B-ISDN (Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network) that can transfer many types of multimedia information. In ATM-based networks, all information is transferred by dividing into fixed-size packets (called as cells). The ATM network is a connection-oriented network by virtue of a notion of virtual circuits called VPs...
